Work commenced!

Construction commenced this week. Your eyes are not playing tricks, it really has commenced.

 

The building will be constructed in progressive stages. Briefly stated Community of Christ Ltd will function as the Principal Contractor, letting a series of subcontracts / purchase orders for various parts of the build. While requiring greater administration by Community of Christ Ltd the advantages include the ability to better control risk by having the direct ability to vary the build, schedule, finish, include donated scope, react to product availabilities and cost changes.

 

Stage 1 commenced this week and is planned to be complete by end February 2023 with the target date for building completion being October 2023 . This first stage is all those activities to top of floor level which includes Community of Christ Ltd administration and pre-construction preliminary activities; ground load bearing capacity improvement, below floor plumbing and electrics, concrete foundations and floor slab. Supply to the site of electrical power, reticulated water and a waste water connection were completed during construction of the carpark which occurred April 2020. Planning of following stages is in progress.

 

The attached picture shows an 800 mm deep excavation of the building footprint. The excavation will be progressively backfilled filled in layers and compacted to achieve the required ground load capacity to support the building.
